I'm the best? no Budapest

Today we woke up in Budapest and after making the above joke 200 times as we walked to the metro station, we got on a train and met up with Madeline Jones, one of our neighbors in Utah who is on a mission in Hungary right now. We caught up over lunch at a hamburger place where we learned that they had been serving the Ukrainian refugees throughout the past couple weeks. After lunch we parted ways and then my family and I walked through the city to the Fishermans Bastion. A beautiful cathedral was built in honor of their first king, King Stephen. The area has a wonderful view of the Pest side of the city. Budapest was originally two different cities, Budda and Pest, throughout time though they combined into one called Budapest; however, the two sides are still refered to with their original names. After walking around the Fishermans Bastion we went and met up with a tour guide who took us on a scooter tour of the city. We went to the parliment building which doubles as an insane asylum according to the guide lol. He said that he as well as most people in Budapest do not agree with the current government. The building was based off of the British parliment building and has two identical halves however they only have 1 group, the national assembly of Hungary, so one half of the building lies empty. We then went to the memorial in honor of the victims who were killed throughout the holocaust. They built a fountain that has sensors so when you walk up to it the water parts. It is supposed to be a representation of Moses parting the Red Sea for the Jews in Egypt. The memorial lights up at night and is very pretty. After seeing this monument we went over to a monument for the Soviet Union soldiers who liberated Hungary from the Nazis. This monument is not well sanctioned as right after liberating Hungary the Soviets then went and put them under socialism then communism and censored them as well as the other Eastern Bloc countries from the rest of the world. The monument is quite dirty and our guide said in protest to what the Soviets did to Hungary throughout the rest of the decade they do not light up the monument at night. This tour was a major highlight and I highly reccomend anyone coming to Budapest to take a scooter tour of the city.
