Muffins and Macarons
3/10/22- Our first stop today was the Chateau du Clos Luce. This chateau is one of many that the french affluent used from the 1400s all the way up until the early 1900s. Many of these castle like masions were only visited a few times and used mainy for the idea of having an address in Amboise, France rather than actually living. This specific chateau was gifted from Louis XI to his favorite chef however it was later suspiciously bought from the chef to Charles VIII (probably forced to be sold but we will look past that). Passed down through a bunch of kings it eventually ends up in the possesion of one of the kings wifes future husband after he dies, the ambroises. It was at this house that Leonrado Di Vinci put his finishing touches on the Mona Lisa as well as a couple other paintings. He had two rooms dedicated to his inventions and paintings. The house is said to have a secret passage that goes to the Chateau D,Royal Ambiose as Leonardo and King Frances I were good friends. Frances I apparently visited Leo every day. After the Chateau du Clos Luce we walked to the Chateau D,Royal Amboise where Leonardo Di Vinci was actually buried however when we got inside we found out that the chapel his body was in was under construction. This castle gives a beautiful view of the city of Amboise through tudor windows and over gothic styled balconies adorned with gargoyle rain spouts. After the castle we stopped at a cafe and got "lunch" (muffins and macarons, hence the title). We then drove just 5 minutes to a quaint little candy shop where we watched as a woman made easter chocolates that were decorated as fish, chickens, and of course eggs. While in Morocco our driver would ask us what we would eat instead of coffee, tea, or alcohol... well the answer is sweets so obviously we had to buy 4 bags of candy. I like to think that its our way of proclaiming our faith, so after being exemplarary saints we drove over to Chateau du Chamant su Loire. Cathrine de Medici visited this castle frequently. Unfortunatley this one was closing in 15 minutes so it was more of an in and out one but still very pretty. Overall highly reccomend going to the chateaus in and around Amboise, France.
