No more riads
FRANCE!!
3/9/22- Waking up in our first normal hotel (not a riad) we got ready and grabbed some french yogurt and other various french snacks for breakfast. We headed out to the Cathedral de Chartes. It was first built in 800 AD commonly known as the dark ages however it is famously known for burning down multiple times and almost being bombed during WWII only for an allied unionist man to sneak across the boarder of france and make sure it was not being occupied saving it from destruction. When it would get burned down it would be rebuilt with whichever style was popular at the time. This causes it to have two spires with complete different architectural styles. This cathedral is dedicated to the mother of mary. The stained glass throughout it shows depictions of different bible stories. Because many people were illiterate in the dark ages the carvings and glass were used to teach them the stories of the bible. The tunic they claim Mary wore when she gave birth to baby Jesus resides in this cathedral as well. After walking through the town surrounding the church we contined to our air B&B, a cute french house with winding staircases right by a castle! We unloaded our stuff and then walked to the castle which was lit up with yellow and blue for Ukraine. Afterwards we walked through THE CUTEST french town, almost village, to a restaurant where we got pizza with goat cheese and honey. It's to die for! Theres no such thing as romanticizing France.
